Many hearts in Leon were saddened Monday, shortly before noon, when it was announced that FRANK FARQUHAR had passed away.MR. FARQUHAR was a member of the firm of Farquhar & Sons, and one of the most popular young businessmen of Leon.He had been in poor health for some time, suffering from stomach trouble, and a couple of months ago went to Des Moines for a course of treatment.He returned home much improved, and continued to gain, until three weeks ago, when he was stricken with appendicitis, and was operated upon at the Leon Hospital, it being found the appendix had burst.He was apparently recovering nicely, and last week was removed to the home of his parents, MR. and MRS. HORACE FARQUHAR, and great hopes were entertained for his recovery.Sunday evening complications arose, and he gradually grew worse, although he was not considered in a serious condition until a short time before his death, which occurred shortly after ll o'clock Monday morning.The funeral was held from the home yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.The heartfelt sympathy of everyone goes to the grief-stricken wife, parents and other relatives. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa Thursday, June 29, l922
FRANK FARQUHAR was born in Leon, Iowa, December l9, l885, and died on June l9, l922, in the old home where he had been born thirty-six years and six months before.He was united in marriage on July l9, l9l4, to VEE ESTES AIKEN.He is survived by his wife and son, WILLIAM, his father and mother, one brother, EDWARD, of Leon, a sister, MRS. HARRY RAYMOND, of Des Moines, an aged grandmother and one uncle.
He was an active member of Hesperia Lodge No. 33, Knights of Pythias and of the Leon Chamber of Commerce and was always actively interested in any plan or project for the interests of the community.He was of a genial and cheerful disposition, generous and kindly, always ready to help in time of need.His happy smile and the enthusiasm of his spirit will be sadly missed by our whole community.He will be mourned by a wide circle of friends.
The funeral was held from the home of his father on Wednesday, June 2l.Rev. T.F. Campbell, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.Interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
