John,
A lot of confusion about John & Mary (McQuigg) seems to have come from a book I have about the family, published in 1929, by Mrs. Jennie (Aikin) Cleland. In it, an old family member recalls his grandparents, John and Mary (McQuigg), as well as his father (James) and uncles. The problem is, in his old age, he gets some of the names mixed up.
The John Ekin/Akin that was born in 1758 was JOHN and MARY'S SON, James' brother, who married Jane Thompson. As far as I know, no real dates have been found for John and Mary, and this business of "David Eakin" has not been substantiated to my satisfaction.I hope everyone will take note of this, as I have seen this name repeatedly in my research. If anyone DOES have authoritative records about John & Mary or the elusive "David," I'd appreciate seeing them.At any rate, I would be happy to send you the 1929 book (it's fascinating!)--- just allow me some time, as I'm still finishing up college and have tons of work!
