I am seeking info on an Aikin family whose daughter, Mary, married a Swartz. I found a reference to a John Swartz who married Mary Jane Aikin on 2Jan1853 in Sanilac Co., Michigan. I recently encountered an Aikin family in Sanilac Co., Michigan on the 1860 census. That family consists of; John Aikin (Head) 36 Jane Aikin (wife) 31 Lydia(Dau)13 Samuel(son)11 Oliver(son)9 Jane(dau)4 William (son)1
John Swartz(Head) 31 Mary J. Swartz (wife)33 Caroline (dau)6 Willard(son)4 Sarah(dau)3 Almond(son)1 Peter (labourer)19
I think it probable that Mary Jane Swartz is a sibling of John Aikin (both mentioned above). I also found reference to an Almond Aikin who may also be connected. That name, Almond, seems to be the connector to these families. Its uniqueness makes it so.
It appears quite likely that I have an ancestral connection to these families from the early 1800s and would be pleased to hear from anyone connected to this line. They do not appear on the census in Michigan after 1860 (that I can find), so I'm wondering if the family moved after that time (possibly westward). I also would be very pleased to share what I have on this line. Dale McDonald
