I recently acquired a copy of my 2nd Great Grandfather Thomas Hammill Aikman's family bible. The bible contained a number of loose items as well as three loose pages which appear to have come from another family bible. The loose pages appear to be from the family bible of Michael Aikman and Ann Willson. As Thomas H. Aikman was the eldest surviving son of Michael Aikman and Ann Willson when they died it is very possible he ended up with his parents family bible and perhaps he took out the pages with entries from their bible and added them into his own family bible? Only a quess on my part.
The front of the bible reads "T.H. Aikman July 28 1854". First page of hand writen entries under the heading of "Family Records""Births" reads: "Thomas Hammill Aikman was born at the City of Hamilton in the County of Wentworth and Province of Canada West on the 27th day of August in the year of our Lord 1825. Son of Michael Aikman and Ann Aikman" "Eliza J. Hall was born at the City Montpelier in the state of Vermont on the 4th day of October in the year of our Lord 1817. Daughter of George Hall and Lydia Hall."
Under the above two entries the following is written: "Lizzie Annie Aikman born 11th June 1852" "Michael George Aikman born 31st Jan 1855." "Louisa Kate Aikman born 12th March 1859."
Another page reads under "Marriage & Births" "Geo. M. Aikman was born at the Town of Cayuga, County of Haldimand, Province of Ontario on the 31st Jan 1855. Son of Thos H. Aikman and Eliza Hall." "Married Mary Anne McKenzie who was born at Parkhill, Ont on August 1st 1865. Daughter of William McKenzie and Mary Gavin." "Issue" "Ella Frances Aikman born 21st August 1888" "Grace Anna Aikman born December 10th 1890" "Margaret Ruth Aikman Born February 23rd 1893"
Note on above: On the last entry someone has written over the orignal entry of the year 1893 and change it to 1890 which is incorrect as Margaret Ruth who went by the name of Ruth was indeed born in 1893.
Of the three loose pages which appear to be originally from another family bible the first page has a printed heading of "Family Record" "Marriages" under which is written by hand: "Michael, Aikman Son of John, Aikman was married to Ann, Willson daughter of John, Willson, Esq, on the 3rd day of February, 1820."
Second page with a printed heading of "Family Record" "Births" and under it written by hand: "Michael Aikman was born on the 9th day of December, 1797." Written beside the above is: "Ann Willson, the wife of Michael Aikman was born on the 5th day of June 1803."
Under the above two entries are the following entries: "John, A.W. Aikman was born on the 30th day of December, 1820." "Elizabeth, S. Aikman was born on the 30th day of August, 1823." "Thomas, H. Aikman was born on the 27th Day of August, 1825." "Michael, A, Aikman was born on the 13th day of January 1828." "Mary Ann, Aikman was born on the 27th day of March, 1830." "Hannah Marilla Aikman was born on the 28 Day of December, 1832." "James Henry, Aikman was born on the 27th Day of February 1835."
Third page with printed heading of "Family Record" "Births" and in the same hand writting as above entries is the following: "Hugh Bowlsby, Willson, Aikman was born on the fifteenth day of November 1836."
The 4th page with the printed heading of "Family Record" "Deaths" are the following hand written entries: "James, Henry, Aikman Died on the 28th Day of August 1855 Aged Six Months and one Day." "John A. W. Aikman Died on the 13th day of February Aged 27 years one month and 13 days, 1848." "E.S. Aikman Died Jan 17th 1893" "Michael Aikman died on the 21st March 1881 aged 83 yrs 2 mos and 12 days." "Ann Aikman died on 16th April 1882 aged 78 yrs 10 mos + 11 days"
Note on above: On the first 3 pages of entries and up to and including the entry for the death of John A. W. Aikman the hand writing appears to be the same but it changes for the last three entries. The hand writing on the entry for E.S. Aikman is different from all the others and the entries of the death of Michael Aikman and his wife Ann is different again - although both these entries were done by the same person.
The bible contained other intreasting bits and pieces of papers:
A small piece of paper hand written which reads as follows:
"Michael Aikman sister married Justice Williams his daughter married George Griffin They had several sons + two daughters Emma (sp?)died about 10 years ago Ida still lives." "Sept 1910" "Information from Mrs Griggs"
Note on above: the one daughters name is hard to read - possible Emma or Eirna?Mrs. Griggs was Lizzie Anne Aikman daughter of Thomas Hammill Aikman.
Another small piece of paper hand written reads as follows: "Michael Aikman March 21st 1881 Annie N. Aikman April 16 - 1882 E.S. Aikman Jan 17 - 1893 H.M. Aitken Apl 14 - 1889"
Note on above: the middle initial on the Annie may be a "W" not an "N" but based on the writing it looks more like a N than a W.
Another loose item from the bible:
Envelope with a post office stamped "SP 2 03 Washago ONT" addressed to: "T.H. Aikman Esq 493 Young St. Winnipeg Manitoba"
In the envelope is a printed card with black borders which reads:

FUNERAL Will take place from his late residence, Washago, On Monday, August 31st, at 2.30 pm., to St. Mark's Cemetery. ____________ Friends and acquaintances will please accept this intimation.
I hope the above is of help to someone. I hope to get all of the above scanned some time in the very near future and will be happy to send to anyone who is intreasted.
