William H. AINEY, M. Born in 1776 in Fulton County, NY. William H. died in Susquehanna County, PA, in 1850; he was 74. Buried in Susquehanna County, PA. near the Methodist church.
“The Ainey family, of Lehigh County, are descendants of William H. Ainey, of French descent, whose ancestors were Huguenots.When he came to this county he settled in Mohawk Valley, Montgomery Co., NY.He was married to Hannah Crawford, of Connecticut.Their son, John, was born in 1802, and was married to Catharine Kinnan, of Goshen, NY. “”[William and Hannah’s] first home was supposed to have been in Orange County near Goshen.They moved around 1825-26 to Brooklyn Township on Susquehanna Counry, PA. ... According to family lore, his ancestors were French Huguenots.Also in family lore is that the Ainey family came after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes and resided in NYC and then Mohawk Valley, Montgomery Co, NY.Another story is that William’s father was John, who was seized by a vessel captain and sold in Virginia.”
