My great great grandfather was John Ainslie, a seaman, b. 1827 Bo'ness. His father's name was William Ainslie. John died in 1858 prior to the birth of his youngest son. I can find no trace of his death and presume that he was lost at sea.
John Ainslie married Helen Robertson in 1851 at Carriden. They had 3 known children: William Ainslie, b. 1852 Borrowstoun. Elizabeth Learmonth Ainslie, b. 1856 Linlithgow. John Ainslie, b. 1858 Linlithgow.
Elizabeth Learmonth Ainslie was my great grandmother. She married William Gordon Taylor in Linlithgow in 1876. They had a very large family including: Elizabeth Ainslie Taylor, b. 1876 William Ainslie Charles Taylor, b. 1877 (my grandfather), died Egypt in 1916. Helen Ainslie Taylor, b. 1881 John Ainslie Taylor, b. 1893 Agnes Ainslie Taylor, b. 1897
There was also a daughter named Jane Kirkwood Taylor. I have long wondered where the middle name of Kirkwood came from. Could I be relatedto the William Ainslie and his wife Janet "Jeannie" Kirkwood of Bo'ness that you know of?
