Hello Kim James Aird was born 3 June 1796 (Old Parochial Register, Glasgow) to John Aird, labourer, and Jean Orr. This is the correct James Aird, as I took his and Mary Aitken's death dates from their tombstone in Sorn Cemetery, then applied for their death certificates. These death certificates verify the parentage stated above.
I cannot find a record of a marriage between James Aird and Jean Orr, however, the baptism record for James states that he is a L. son (legitimate son) of John and Jean, so maybe the marriage record is missing.
Mary Aitken was christened 22 April 1800 at Muirkirk, daughter of William Aitken and Janet Campbell. This should be the correct Mary Aitken, as she states in a later Census that she was born in Muirkirk.
Again, I cannot find a record of a marriage between William Aitken and Janet Campbell.
I cannot find any more children born to John Aird and Jean Orr.
Most of my information comes from the excellent website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, which is a government website recording Old Parish Records, B,D&M's from 1855 onwards, and Censuses. They do not have all the OPR Deaths online yet, but these should be available in 3 months or so, when I hope to find deaths of John Aird and Jean Orr, which may be helpful.
Unfortunately, I cannot take their line back any further at this stage.
You have to pay to get information from Scotlandspeople, but it is quite reasonable considering what you get. The Censuses in particular are very informative.
My husband is a descendant of James Aird and Mary Aitken. Their son, James Aird who married Mary Beattie, had a son named John, who came to Australia in 1887. He married here in Australia, had 9 children and many grandchildren, one of whom is my husband.
