I have Airds in my family tree that claim to have a connection with the Aswan Dam, but I have not been able to find conclusive proof.
What I do know is that John Aird (1833 - 1911), son of John Aird (1800 - 1876), son of Robert Aird of Fortrose, Ross-shire, Scotland, was responsible for building the dams at Aswan (1898 - 1902) and Asyut. He was also MP for Paddington from 1887. His descendant was private secretary to the Queen.
My husband's ancestor, John Anderson Aird (1834 - 1903), was thought to have worked on the dam as well - he was an architect and surveyor - and may be related to John Aird the MP, but I have been unable to find evidence for this.
If you would like more information about this branch of the Aird family - or if you have further details you would like to share, please email me directly.
