Tried to e-mail you but the address associated with your posting was out of date.So ...Here's my original message:
Saw your Dec. 26, 2001 posting on the Aitken Message Board at Genealogy.com regarding "Marie Aitken, wife of William Maclemore".
I too am interested (for obvious reasons) in running down the family of Mary Aitken, who was widowed in July 1664 by the death of her husband William McIlmorrow (as the name was spelled there), in Colmonell Parish, Ayrshire. No children were mentioned in his Testament Dative, but legal terminoligy therein indicates he probably had some.It is my guess (and that of a lot of other people, too, apparently) that this couple were the parents of the immigrant Macklemore (McLemore) brothers, so they must have been small when their daddy died.Whether mom remarried or raised her bairns with the help of her Aitken family is unknown. It is probably from her family that the first Macklemore immigrnat Mun. Macklemore got his christian name, Mungo, as there have been several Mungo Aitkens in history, but mostly in Lanarkshire, and eventually the USA (PA, I think). But there were none that I have found in Ayrshire, though I did find a John Aitken in Ayrshire at the right time, and Johns and Mungos seem to alternate in succeeding generations in the above-described family. But I cannot connect the Ayrshire John to Mary. What do you have?
Hope this reaches you, and that you have not changed e-mail address in the last two years!
