Looing for descendants or information on brother and sister, Jane Ann and Samuel Aitken of New Jersey adn New York City.
Sherry, you said that your Aitken was from New Jersey and that someone in the family had a department store in New York City.Your family was Scottish. Those three things sound like my Aitken family.Though census records have Aiken, Aitken, Acken, Atkin, a tombstone had Aitken and that is how you spelled it too.I have two Aitkens.
1.Jane Ann Aitken (born about 1841 and buried 30 March 1869? in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn)) married Joseph G. Harrison of New York City. His father described her as from a wealthy family in New Jersey.Jane Ann and Joseph had Graham Aitken and Bertha Aitken.Jane Ann died and Joseph remarried to Grace and had a daughter, Grace. 2.I believe it was Jane Ann's brother who married Joseph's sister.Samuel S. Aiken was born in New York, says a census.Samuel S. Aiken married Susan Harrison. They had Edith Aitken and Isobel Graham Aitken.Susan died young.Various Harrison relatives looked after the girls, including the girls' grandmother Isabella Graham Harrison and then an aunt Margaret J. Harrison Parsons in Enfield, CT, and Springfield, Massachusetts.Samuel worked in Aitken's store in New York City.I always assumed it belonged to his family, same name.Harrisons were Scots-Irish; they were Presbyterian.
Looking for descendants of Joseph and Jane Ann or Grace, as well as of Samuel Aitken and Susan Harrison Aitken.I am interested in learning naem sof parents and siblings of Jane Ann and Samuel.Thank you.
