FARMINGTON - Dorothy H. (Diette) Akerley, 94, of Farmington died Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2005, at Sandy River Center for Health Care in Farmington.
She was born in Lowell, Mass., on Sept. 10, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lumina (Berard) Diette.
She married James H. Akerley in Lowell, where he was the manager of the J.J. Newberry store. In 1939, they moved to Farmington.
Prior to her marriage she was employed in the offices of Merrimac Manufacturing Co. in Lowell. She had many artistic hobbies, but her favorite was writing many children's stories for her grandchildren.
Mrs. Akerley attended Henderson Memorial Baptist Church and had been active in the past in the church activities.
Survivors include a son, Arnold and his wife, Delores, of Hyannis, Mass.; a daughter, Frances Harton and her husband, Leslie, of Farmington; one sister, Phyllis Evangelos of Lowell; her grandchildren, Dr. Brian Akerley of Massachusetts, Christopher Akerley of Massachusetts, Katherine and her husband, Ronald Beiroute, of Montreal, Elizabeth and her husband, Jon Gallagher of Utah, Dr. Jonathan Harton and his wife, Janna, of Tampa, Fla., and James Harton, State College, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren, Lilianne Beiroute, Joshua and Jeremy Harton; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her husband James, her parents, two brothers, Arthur and Warren, and a sister, Mina, predeceased her.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Fairview Cemetery, Farmington. Arrangements under the direction of Western Mountains Cremation and Funeral Service, Farmington.
