Ashley, It is said that the Akers name dates back to the 12th century in Sussex County, England. Supposedly, the first Akers was Sir John of Acre who was given a tract of land by King Richard during the crusades. There are Akers' spead all over the U.S. A large portion now resides in Illinois and another large collection in Virginia. The Illinois Akers' originally came here via Kentucky. If you can give me birth dates/death dates of your parents, I can try and find it to the information we have on the Kentucky Akers.
