I just came across your conversation on mental illness and spititually gifted in the Akers family and it seems to fit in with what little I know on my Akers family. My gggrandfather was (Frank) Tobias Akers, born 1846 in Balto., MD. and died 1899 in Balto. In 1866 he married Iowa Merryman. He fought in the Civil War and on his Invalid Pension application it says he totally unable to earn support due to rheumatism, scurvy, and affection of the head - partial dementia. He is described as having dark skin, black hair, and gray eyes.
Children of Iowa and Tobias Akers: Mary Barbara1872-1932 Tobias Merryman1875-1876 Ellen V.1880-1939 Ida Bell1882-1949 Catherine V.1885-1983 Estella A.1871-1955
Clairvoyant also seems to run in the family starting with Mary Barbara and being passed down mother to daughter, myself and daughter included.
Mary Barbara died from diabetes, Catherine V. from cancer, Ida Bell and Estella were in and out of mental hospitals.
I would love to find Tobias's parents and know more about this family. If anyone isfamilar with any of these people, I would greatly appreciate any help you could give.
