AMOS AKERS--was born in Montgomery county, Virginia, October 18,1833, and came to Pulaski county when very young. Moses and Katie AKERS, of Floyd county, Virginia, were his parents; and he married Missouri, daughter of Joseph and Ruth (MURRY) KELLY. She was born in Wythe county, Virginia, February 24,1838 and her parents at a later date took up their residence in Pulaski county. The marriage of Amos AKERS and Missouri KELLY was solemnized in Pulaski county, July 06,1853 and their children were born: William D., July 31,1855; Mary C., May 1, 1858; Lucy Belle, January 5, 1862; Jordon M., September 5, 1864; James T., September 11, 1866; Walker V., May 3, 1869; Effie O., April 20, 1872--all are living in this district. Mr. AKERS was a soldier of the Confederacy during the war between the States, holding rank of lieutenant and serving with Company F. Fifty-Fourth Virginia Infantry, under BRECKENBRIDGE, through may battles and much hard service. He then resigned his commission and entered the commissary department, and served until the end of the war. His brothers, David, Doddridge and Moses were soldiers of the same war, the latter two in the Fifty-Fourth Infantry with him. On the close of the war Mr. AKERS turned his attention again to the life of a farmer and grazier, and is now well situated in Dublin district.
