I've posted some photos of William D. Akers, his wife Mary and of his parents Peter and Maria Akers on my website. Their daughter Virginia married Pierre Vanasse, resulting in my grandmother, Julia Vanasse, all of which happened in or near Spring Valley, Wisconsin. Here's the link:
By the way, I have a copy of an 1857 autobiography by the Reverend James B. Finley (Pioneer Life in the West) with a pencil inscription by William D. Akers that Finley was his uncle. The book is available as a reprint on Amazon. My brother has William D's Civil War rifle and commission in the Minnesota militia.
I have the bible William D. received from his father Peter in 1858, according to the inscription in the front. However, instead of recording family genealogy the first few blank pages record statistics, such as the fact that the Bible contains 3,586,489 letters, etc.
