Oscar and Eliza had 11 children, one of whom was Chester Heaton Akers. Chester married Amanda J Gobble, daughter of Martin Phelps and Cynthia Cunningham Gobble. Children were Harry E, Everett, Hassie, Gene and Kenneth (Kent). Chester lived in WA County, VA and then went to Indiana, approx 1910 and then on to ND in the mid or late 1920's. Amanda remained in VA, living with her sister Lulu and husband, Dr. William Leslie Davenport in Amelia County, VA. The doctor had Amanda committed to the state hospital in about 1915, where she spent the rest of her life until she died in 1960. Her friends who stuck by her for her life, said there was nothing wrong with her, yet Chester left her and took the children west. Any information on this story would be appreciated. We have the state hospital records which seem to confirm she wasn't dangerous. The doctor claimed she was very mean and suicidal. Census records confirm that Chester never divorced Amanda.
