Thanks for writing back.Sorry you have not been able to contact me-----don't know why emails were returned, but I am back in town and can attend to famil history again---yea!
Mary Ann Sage Hart ( also known as "Polly Ann") was born about 1820 in Ohio to Joseph Sage. Her mother may be Polly Pliner, which is oral info from Sage family descendants in Ohio.Joseph's documented wife in Iowa was Sarah or "Sallie."Could be the same person, but some things support two differen wives, in which case, Mary Ann's mother probably would have been the first wife.
William James Sage is actually Mary Ann's brother. The known children of Joseph Sage are Samuel G. Sage (married Ruth Carson and Sarah Hill), Ansley Harrison Sage (my ancestor, who married Margaret Rape), Jehial Sage (married Diana Elmira Baldwin), Mary Ann "Polly" Sage, William James Sage(married Maria Roberts, Sarah Ridinger, and Christina Save), and Julia Ann Sage(married Samuel Brooks). These children are documented through Joseph's will and an affadavit given by William James Sage after the death of Joseph Sage.
Mary Ann was married once before she married Alson A. Hart. Her first husband was Gustavus Thornton Rape, whom she married in Sangamon, Illinois in 1840.They had a child, George Washington Rape, but both Gustavus and baby George died from cholera in 1841.
Joseph Sage was born in Maryland around 1785-1790 to Samuel Sage and Judith Callivan Sage. The family was in Frederick Co., Maryland in 1790.They may have been in Harford Co., Maryland in 1783.Samuel had served in the Continental Army, having enlisted in Philadelphia on Jan 1, 1777 as part of Patton's Additional Regiment. He was mustered out late in 1780 in Wilmington, Delaware.Samuel said he was born in Bristol, England and his birth date is given as 11 June 1755. He may be the Samuel Sage who paid taxes in Sussex, New Jersey in 1774.
In 1799, Samuel Sage and family were in Hampshire Co., Virginia (now West Virginia). They left there sometime around 1810 and moved to Athens, Ohio area.Samuel died around 1828.Some list his death date as 1824, but he and Judy sold land to a son in 1827, so I go with the 1828 death date.Judith is supposed to have died around 1834. Samuel and Judith Callivan Sage's known children are Joel Sage, Nancy Sage, Joseph Sage, James Sage, and Charlotte Sage.
Hope this helps.Let me know if anything doesn't make sense or if you have more to add.
