Hi, I am interested to know your source for the marriage of Rhoda Akin to Mr. Reeves in 1855.I have found a marriage for Rhoda Akin to George W. Helms, son of Joel Helms and Mary Mcguirt, October 22, 1856 in Spalding Co., GA.This may not be the same Rhoda, but it appears to be.Can you help me straighten this out?
I am not an Akin desc., but my line of Helms connects to the Akin family-Isom Henry Akin, son of James J. Akin and Mary, married Sarah Elizabeth Helms about 1873, prob. in GA.They moved to Cullman Co., AL and are in the 1900 census there in Baileyton, Cullman Co., Al with Sarah's mohter in the household. Sarah Elizabeth Helms is the daughter of Michael Helms and Elizabeth Thomas who married in Campbell Co., GA October 12, 1845.I believe this Michael to be the son of Solomon Helms and Jain.Solomon was found in Campbell Co., GA in 1840 and had died by 1850.I believe that Jain Helms, listed in the 1850 census, is Solomon's wife, but cannot prove that.Jane Helms McGouirk Norton, the daughter of Jain Helms, is my ancestress, the grandmother of my great grandmother, Ada Norton Mozley.
A desc. of Floyd Madden and Rhoda Akin (who is HER father??), Walter Lumpkin Madden, married Sarah Malinda Helms, daughter of Joel and Mary McGuirt Helms.A desc. of Walter and Sarah Malinda Helms Madden married into my grandmother's maternal line in MS-the Fillingames. My Grandfather is the desc. of Jane Helms McGouirk Norton, and he was from GA.I am quite interested in this connection! (This is not the only connection that I have found between my Grandfather's line and my grandmothers, altho there is no blood relation between them, just marriages in the families.)My Grandfather met my Grnadmother when he was hoboing around the US in the late 1920s and early 1930s.He was on his way back to AL when he stopped in MS and met her. They were married in 1931 and my mother was born in 1932.My Grandmother was Tina Jane Courtney and my Grandfather was Lowell Isaiah Mozley.Neither of them ever knew of the connections between the families!I just love genealogy!
