I have for years believed that my ancestor was named Joseph Joshua Akin and I found the proof in York Co. SC when he witnessed the will of Margaret Love 1800-1808 (can't remember exact date) -- he signed his name Joseph Joshua Akin. The signature proved that he was living in York Co SC and that his name was Joseph Joshua. The other 2 witnesses of the will were Joshua's half - brothers, Alexander and George.
Don, I appreciate the info that Joshua was living close by Mathew McCaslin. Is there any proof that Mathew might have had a daughter or sister named Ann (Ann might have been a nickname of Hannah, etc.) b. abt. 1789 NC?Joshua married Ann b. NC.
