No birth records have ever been found for the 12 children of Edward and Elizabeth (Russell) Akin who lived in White Creek, Washington Co., NY from ca 1773 to 1803. All of their children were born in White Creek. In 1803 they purchased the Johnson Hall estate in Johnstown, Fulton Co. (then Montgomery Co.), NY and moved there with all of their children some of whom were married with families.
Through considerable research, most of the dates of birth have been found, but the date of birth for Abraham has proven elusive.I just found his tombstone in the Lockport, Will Co., Illinois cemetery with his date of death, 12 Oct 1846, and his age at death of 58 years.Unfortunately, the months and days of age are not on the stone so the best we can do is calculate a date of birth of about 1788.This makes Abraham the youngest surviving son of Edward and Elizabeth's children.
Buried beside Abraham was Abraham Akin, Jr. who was 21 years old when he died on 07 Feb 1849.
After Abraham's death, Asenath (Matthews) Akin, his wife, stayed in Lockport until Abraham Akin, Jr. died in 1849.She then moved back to Johnstown, Fulton Co., NY where she lived with her aged mother, Prudence, and her older brother Ezekiel Matthews. She appears there in the 1850 US Census. After her daughter, Mary A. Akin, died and was buried in Johnstown on 26 Mar 1853, Asenath moved back to Illinois where she lived the rest of her life with her oldest son, Edward Howard. She is also buried in the Lockport Cemetery with Abraham and Abraham, Jr.Her date of death was 28 Jul 1872 and her age at death was 80 years so her date of birth was about 1793.
