I have recently received documented information that the mother of John William was not Sara Spellings. It was Sara Burchfield. Archibald and Sara Burchfield had 2 children: Elizabeth and John William. They were married around 1790. They did not divorce. Sara took up with a man named Chapman. Archibald married a second time and when that wife died he married again. The documents state that he had children from the other unions. Archibald died around 1818. Sara Burchfield Akins after the breakup with Chapman married James Wilson of Fairfield County. After his death the will was contested about Sarah getting the widow's share. Testimony was made by Sarah's daughter, Elizabeth Wooten, about Archibald. She also names John William as the son of Sarah and Archibald.
Elizabeth's daughter, Sarah, married Joel Wages and they moved from Richland Co, SC to Walton County between 1826 and 1828. Joel is listed in the 1830 Walton census and after that in the Gwinnett Co census records. The name is sometimes found as Wagers.
I think I recognize your name as living in the same place in GA. If so, you may contact me. I am listed in the phone book under initials & last name Wages. The last 2 digits of the phone number are 05; I think you can easily find me if I am correct.
