For over a century, Akin genealogists have concluded that Abraham Akin, b. 3 Jan 1769 in Dartmouth, s/o Elihu and Ruth (DVR 1:15) survived childhood, became a mariner, and married Rebecca Eldridge (DVR 2:15) in 1808 and reared a family in Dartmouth. If this is true, then who is the Abraham Akin, s/o Elihu and Ruth, that died 16 May 1770 (DVR 3:15)?
Elihu and Ruth would not have named their son b. 1769 Abraham if they already had another son named Abraham, would they?Is it more likely that the Abraham b. 1769 died as an infant in 1770 and then another son was born that was never recorded in the DVR and was named Abraham and that this later Abraham grew to adulthood?
Does anyone have any ideas or information on this puzzle?
