In my copyright 1837 RUST Family Bible, I have a displaced relative.
Josephine McFarland is listed under birthdates in the Bible with no date. She is listed in the Bible under marriages as Josephine McFarland to James L. AKINS on Dec. 25, 1859.
She appears on the Adams Co., Illinois marriages as:
Mary J. McFarling, bride to James S. AKINS, Dec. 25, 1859 (same as Old Bible marriage date but variation in names)
1850 Census for Keene Twp., Adams Co., Illinois, she is living with George & Mary Rust as Josephine McFarland age 6. If the 1850 Census is correct with her age 6; ca birth 1844.
1870 Census for Keene Twp., Adams Co., ILL:She is living with husband James AKINS, head of houshold with George Rust 76 yrs. old, George listed as owner of property.(Note: George was really 78 yrs. old, his birthdate Jan. 29, 1792).
Both George and Mary Rust were married before, so Josephine McFarland could be a possible granddaughter that they were raising although the census did not list her as a granddaughter.
George & Mary (McChesney) Farner, Rust are my 3rd. great grandparents.I have all their children from their 1st. marriages and 2 sons from their union.I am from their son Charles who named his daughter, my great grandmother Josephine.
In my great grandmother, Josephine Rust's autography book she has 3 autographs of AKINS:Harry Akins (listed as cousin) non-legible AKINS, Lillie AKINS.This book is dated with autographies ranging between 1885 through 1889.
When my 3rd great grandfather, George Rust was old and wife had died, it appears James AKINS and wife Josephine/Mary J. (McFarland/McFarling) AKINS were living in his home and taking care of him.
Note:Villiage of Loraine, Keene Twp., Adams Co., Illinois is next to Missouri and part of the RUST family/children lived in MO and would frequently go back and forth. The James & Josephine (Mary J.) AKINS descendants may have lived in MO.(Providing they had children)
I am looking for the connection between the AKINS/MCFARLAND/RUST families.Any help would be appreciated.
