I am researching Thomas Avery Akins, b. 8-18-1808, m. Margaret S. Ross 2-7-1833 in Franklin Co. Oh., children, James R. b.(a) 1834; Charles B. b. 07-22-1836 in Ill.; Mary J. b. 1838 in Ill.; Lafayette b. 1840, Ogle Co. Ill.; Melissa A. b. 1843 in Ill.; Martha b. 1846 in Mo.;
He was a Black Hawk War militia veteran (Ill.) in 1832. He was one of the pioneer founders of Boulder, Co. moving there in 1858. He was a member of the 3rd volunteer Co. Calvary that participated in the Sand Creek massacre in 1864.
His father was probably James Akins (Aikens) b. 1776, d. Oct. 1839 in Lafayette, Ogle,Co. Ill.James m. Margaret Matthews 1-19-1802 in Cecil Co. Md. and later married Harriet Hardesty 12-30-1829, Franklin Co., Oh.He may have lived in Lynchburg Va. before his marriage to Margaret Matthews and may have had 2 sons in Va., Charles B. and Richard B.
