Anyone know who this James M Akins is that is buried in Carmel Cem. in Spring Gardens, AL. My gggrandpa was James M Akins s/o Melvina Akins and Tollison Atkinson he married Lucinda Rankin about 1851 he served in19th Alabama Co I infantry.He was wounded at Shilo and served to surrender. My grandpa said that he was the one who caught General Lees horse when he was knocked off it. I dont know if this is a fact or fiction.My james and his wife Lucinda moved to Jackson Co. AR after the war. 1870 Village Township Jackson Co. AR 1870-1880 and was said to be buried in Salem Cem. In Jackson Co. AR. Could they have made a marker in Carmel Cem for him too in AL. Or is this a different James M Akins? Hope some one can help me out on this one.
