Hi, I am also trying to research my surname. My father was Christopher (Cristobal) Moreno Alanis (1900 - 1990).He was born in San Antonio, Texas. His parents were from Villa de Santiago, N.L. Mexico.A small town outside Monterrey.
His parents were Crecensio Alanis & Guadalupe Moreno. Both died when my father was very young.
He had numerous siblings & some moved to the US:Alfredo, Crecensio, and Rosa. However, they all changed the spelling of our surname from ALANIS to ALANIZ.
My father refused to change it.We always spelled it ALANIS.
I have some questions: Are the Alanis Sephardic Jews?Greeks? How did the Alanis get to Spain and/or Mexico?Where does the name originate from?
