From page 806 & 807, History of Humboldt County (CA)--Leigh H Irvine, 1915, there is John C. Albee, a prominent citizen. His father was was Uriah T Albee a native of Machias ME who sailed around the Horn and arrived in Eureka, CA abt 1848.He apparently returned to Maine to marry Cornelia Crosby, and they both returned to Eureka, CA by sea.He died in Eureka in 1894.
The book mentiones an ancestor, William Albee of Scarborough, ME a Lt. in the Revolution.
My gggrandfather, William O West married Rhoda Ann Albee 1854 in Rockport ME and they were in the 1860 Tremont census before Rhoda's death.Wm. West might have learned about Humboldt Co. from his in-laws as he brought his mother, Margaret Ober-West and daughter, Ella to Humboldt Co., CA in the 1860's.The Northern California coast resembles Main and might appeal to a sea-going Albee from Maine for that reason.
