My Grandfather, Mike Albin, was from Poland, came to NY around the age of 15 and then moved to Michigan. He saved up money to send for his love, Victoria.
He owned a large farm in Tuscola County, Michigan. He also owned several apartments in Detroit that he lost to a carpetbagger during the depression.
My father said that he wouldn't talk about his family "back home because he had escaped with the help of friends and family and didn't want word to get back and them to get in trouble" but I do have other relatives that have found out polish relatives.
He died at the age of 94 in the early '90's.
I am stuck down here in Florida and have just begun looking into family history. I am glad to see that Albin from Poland was on this page, it gives me a lot of encouragement to investigate into my family tree.
