Due to a very kind reference supplied by A. Doughty, I think we now have proof that Jesse Albritton born about 1806 who lived in Catahoula Parish LA between the latter 1840s until his death in 1861 was NOT the son of Enoch and Penelope Frizzle Albritton. It has frequently been written and published that Jesse was the son of Enoch and Penelope, despite there being no male his age in Enoch's household in 1820. Also, there was no mention of Jesse in Enoch's estate records in 1834. Based upon this information alone, my cousin Mrs. Nelda Tarrer and I both believed that Jesse Albritton was NOT Enoch's son.
Well, the reference by A. Doughty proves that this Jesse Albritton was the son of James Jackson Albritton who died in East Feliciana Parish LA in 1833.
Based upon this information, plus records of Wilcox Co AL and the John F. Albritton family Bible, Nelda and I believe this to be a complete list of the children of Enoch and Penelope Frizzle Albritton who survived to adulthood (there were undoubtedly others who died as infants or small children):
1.Allen Albritton (1794-1861) mrd. Susannah Ford
2.John Frizzle Albritton (1796-1843) mrd. Mary Polk
3.Lavinia (Louisa) Albritton (1800-1864) mrd. Martin B. Lee
4.Silas White Arnett Albritton (1802-1888) mrd. Eunice Polk, Sarah Griffin, MaryCapps McElroy
5.Mary Albritton (1805-after 1850), mrd. John Stokes
6.Susannah Albritton (1807/1808 -1840s), mrd. John B. Skinner
7.George Washington Albritton (1810-1867), mrd. Milly Fowler, Sarah Ann Fowler
If anyone has proof of additional children or information on them, please let us know.
