Whilst studying at La Sierra University in Riverside, California (1985-1988), I met a Janet Albritton, and we were always getting each other's mail. This we found quite funny because she is Black and I am White: we looked related only on paper. We did wonder at the time whether and if so, how, we were related.
I do have some geneological information but not with me at the moment, as I am in Viet Nam on business.
I am Gwendolyn Janelle Albritton, and my first name is after my father's sister, Gwendolyn Anita Albritton, who finally succumbed to breast cancer on March 26, 1994 after a brave, long fight.
My father, Jerry Samuel Albritton, who turned 58 on July 26 of this year, enjoys excellent health. He is still with his wife of 35 years, Mary Elizabeth Travis of Atlanta, GA. Jerry was born in Savannah, GA, while his father, Herman Albritton, was a welder building battleships. He was married to Evelyn Brown.
They were actually from Sarasota, FL, so their stay in GA was only for 3 years during the war. They relocated to Sarasota, where my father and his sister grew up. Herman died on March 2, 1974 of pancreatic cancer. His elder sister, Helen, the last living sibling, is doing well in her assisted living apartment in Sarasota.
Helen and Herman Albritton are 1/4 Cherokee Indian. Their mother's mother was full Cherokee. I have seen a picture of her and she was stunning, with ramrod-straight eyebrows that gave her a naturally cross expression -- which I inherited. But my natural brow color is light blonde so it did not show up strongly until I started wearing makeup....but it is OK because I smile a lot.
The Albrittons hail from England, I know, but is there any East European heritage, e.g., Polish or Slav? I wonder about this because I have received many comments in the past few years whilst travelling abroad that I look East European, or Russian, and not at all like an American. (Whatever that means.) I find this ironic because I have "true American" blood, from my Cherokee ancestry....
I am particularly interested in personally meeting my kin in California. I did meet one Allbritton in San Jose, CA purely by chance, but he is the only one so far. I also have a cousin, a nephew of Helen, living in Yorba Linda, CA, by the name of Gary. His mother is Polly. She and her sister Ronell are Helen's neices. Sorry, their late mother's name slips my mind at the moment -- but she was Helen's younger sister.
My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be Stateside after 23 August. My cell phone # is 909-334-4258. It has voice mail also, so feel free to call me anytime.
