Above site has an ALBUOY family lineage under "Surname Studies." I have not found a connection to this particular Albury family. I have a Sarah JOELL who was married to a Nicholas ALBUOY on Bermuda. Their children were John, Susannah, Sarah, & Rebecca. I do not have a down line of this couple, nor dates. (I think Albouy is the way it's spelled in various wills.)
Sarah JOELL was the daughter of Capt. Thomas JOELL and Sarah (she was either a HINSON or the step child of a HINSON). Both Thomas & wife Sarah's wills are posted on the above site. He died about 1750 and her will is dated 1777 (by which date daughter Sarah JOELL ALBUOY was dead, and Nicholas ALBUOY probably remarried).
Sarah JOELL ALBUOY's grandparents were Capt. William JOELL (b.abt.1665-d.1715) and Susannah STAFFORD (will dated 1741). William, although from a Bermuda family, may have been born in the Bahamas during the time of the Eleutheria Adventurers.
JOELLs were mariners. Besides the Dorset (arrival of William Aburie?) & the Plough, I am not aware of any more early passenger lists. A Richard JOELL in 1627 is first mention of family in Bermuda. I suspect many of my (so far) missing down lines may lead to Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad, and perhaps New England. My particular line (Richard JOELL, son of William) migrated to Norfolk area of VA about 1730.
Can anyone offer assistance with Nicholas ALBUOY (whatever spelling) and his children? Has anyone run across JOELL (Joel/Jowell?) name in any of their research?
