Pat, Your ancestor Richard Alcott, who married Jane Louisa Huggan and lived in Nova Scotia, was born in Paisley, Scotland and served in the 72nd British Regiment of Foot as a drummer boy. He had two others in the regiment with him, presumably brothers: John and Robert. I am descended from John, who was born in Paisley ca. 1819. He married Christina Hutten. Your ancestor and mine both served in the US Civil War. Mine was with the 36th NY and the 10th Regiment VRC (he fought in the NYC Draft Riots of 1863 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.) Your ancestor served in the 3rd MA Heavy Artillery and may have seen John from time to time in Washington DC during the Civil War. Your ancestor spent his final years in a National Military Home for Disabled Veterans in Dayton, Ohio, where he died shortly before 1900. Would love to share other details. Please reply to my email -- do you know about Richard's brothers or his parents in Scotland? Thanks --Kevin A.
