Connection and migration history for Royal Alden

I am looking for information about Royal Alden, son of Samuel & Miriam Alden, who was born in Stafford, Connecticut on June 7, 1802 and married Melinda Fraser from Newberry, South Carolina.

I am having a difficult time connecting the dots as to how Royal Alden migrated from Connecticut, to South Carolina, then to Tennesee and finally arriving in McLeansboro, Illinois, where he taught school and remained in that general area for the rest of his life (d. 1/1/1870)

If there is anyone out there with any information, it would be greatly appreciated.I am the gg-granddaughter of Royal's son, Andrew Jackson Alden.
