The wife of Capt Bradford Ripley Alden was Ann Caroline Coleman b. 1821. She was an heiress to the great Coleman fortune, derived principally from iron ore and coal deposits from central Pennsylvania. She married Capt Alden 1842 in York, Pa. Her personal fortune allowed her to split time between her estate at Fort Hill, Long Island and a Stanford White designed mansion in Cornwall, Pa. She was a patron of the arts and large benefactor of Julian Alden Weir, the famous American artist. Julian's father, Walter Weir, was a drafting instructor at West Point and good friends with fellow alum Capt Alden.
Bradford and Ann had a son, R. Percy Alden. He m. Mary Warren, daughter of George Henry Warren, at times referred to as the King of Wall Street. They had 2 sons who died without issue.
