In the 1970's considerable research was done to establish the English origins of Henry Alden, who first appears in Billerica, MA, in 1683/4, and who died at Needham, MA, 18 Feb. 1729/30. Researchers TENTATIVELY identified him as the son of one THOMAS ALDEN and ALLICE ALDEN, who had a son Henry Alden born at Rickmansworth, Herts., England 13 Dec. 1659. The same couple had a son THOMAS born there, 10 Feb. 1656/57. Thomas, the father was buried at Rickmansworth, 19 Feb. 1662/63, and James, son of Allice Alden, widow, was buried there, 26 June 1664. Allice herself was buried on 18 Nov. 1674. There appear to be no burials for the sons HENRY and THOMAS. It is speculated, without proof, that Henry Alden emigrated to Massachusetts and Thomas to New Hampshire (one Dr. Thomas Alden, ancestry unknown, of Dover, NH, died and widow Elizabeth was granted administration, 10 July 1732). QUESTION: Has anything further been learned concerning this Rickmansworth, Herts. Alden family? I am happy to share the results of the 1976 search (by the Herts County Council on behalf of Mr. Loring Williams) to those interested.
