Genealogy.com perpetrates hoax

By genealogy.com user October 30, 2000 at 07:08:55

I sent this to genealogy.com (and Family Tree Maker):I just upgraded to 8.0 and there are no problems there. But included with your version 8.0 was a book called "Roots of the Rich and Famous" by Robert Davenport. This book is trash! It is full of false information and unsubstantiated claims. For example, it traces Marilyn Monroe to the Mayflower and John Alden through her "father" Charles Stanley Gifford.A little resarch - very little in fact! - shows that Marilyn's father was never known. Her mother, Gladys Baker, was mentally unstable and "slept with" many men.A certain bread baker named Edward Mortenson was the decided father by Mrs. Gladys. He left the 24 year old woman after finding out she was pregnant. So "Marilyn" was born Norma Jeane Mortenson. No Gifford there!Mr. Davenport just plugs what he wants where he wants and claims it to be a biography!

You should be ashamed.Family Tree Maker and Genealogy.com are now the "proud" accessories to bad hoaxes. If you want your data respected, much less bought, you cannot send out trash like this!

Shame!
