Hi Keith, (Fiona) After talking last evening Keith, I looked at the "Alder" notice board & found your notes to Fiona. I checked my info & have some questions & help I hope. 01). The John vs. James problem, you have noted that in the 1891 census:- John J. Alder, 22yrs., b:Stockton, Occ:Tinsmith & say James a tinsmith of Hartlepool is not recorded? I believe these are the same person. John James Alder, b:Mar. qtr. 1869 in Stockton (St. Caths.) s/o Ralph & Elizabeth Corner, he spent some time in Canada, returned to live at 28, Bell St., West Hartlepool, rented the house to his younger brother Walter before he moved to Great Ayton. I did not know when he died and have recorded your age of 96yrs., c1965 in Great Ayton. 02). John James Alder as above, marr:Elizabeth Ann Atkinson, I did not know the date & Fiona suggests c1899 in Middlesbrough, they had 4 children, I have found so far:- i. Thomas b:Mar qtr. 1899 in Hartlepool, ii. Lily b:26 Apr.1900 in 12, Clayton St., Throston, Hartlepool, iv. Norman b:date?? & iii. Annie b:date??, marr:date??, to William Strike. Lily's birth cert. notes Father:John James Alder, Occ:Tinsmith & Mother:Elizabeth Ann nee Atkinson. 03). I would like to understand more about John James "marr" to Sarah Jackson nee McFadyean, Occ:Housekeeper and the possible death at work of John this again cast doubt on my understanding that John & James are the same person? I will put my data together for you Keith & perhaps we can share more data & I note we all have some photographs to share. Neil PS you appear to have missed Mary E. Alder Dau., 6mth. b:Hartlepool, bottom of the report from your list of the 1881 census.
