Hi, I'm Maurice William Baron Jr. My Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather (paternal) was Vicente De Alderete, an Alferez (2nd Lieutenant) in the Spanish army of New Spain stationed in Santa Rosa de Lima (now Musquiz), Coahuila, Mexico from approximately the mid 1740s till his death in approximately 1792. He was also the Justicia Mayor (roughly the chief law enforcement and judicial official) of Santa Rosa de Lima for a short period of time. According to general Spanish history the Alderetes had been in the service of the King of Spain for many generations. One of his sons Joseph Miguel Alderete married Maria Candelaria de Leon, daughter of Patricia de la Garza and Martin de Leon, founders of Victoria, Texas. Joseph later became alcalde of Goliad, Texas.
Jose went on to sign the Goliad Declaration of Independence on 2 Dec 1835. This is the original declaration of independence of the Republic of Texas - it anticipated the official declaration of independence (the official) by Texas by 2 days.
According to the 1777 Census of N Coahuila, Vicente was either a legitimate son or a son of a not-married by the church couple, born around 1708 in Valladolid Spain. I am trying to determine who his parents are. There are some Alderetes from Tordecillas (one Julian Alderete - royal treasurer on the Cortes expedition).
