I get this title from a group of Aldermans who lived and are living in Nebraska and are decedents of Jacob Oltermann born in 1773 in Hanburg Germany.
Jacob Oltermann married Rosanna (Flanagan) Fadenland August 22, 1796 in Salem, North Carolina.Jacob died in 1824 and Rosanna passed away in 1820. Most of this information came from “Aldermans of America”, WR McCay and GenForum.
Jacob and Rosanna had seven children; John, the oldest, Jacob, Phillip, George, Elizabeth, Frederick, and Henry, the youngest.
There are many reasons why the Oltermann name was changed to Alderman. The main reason seems to be the Oltermann group would be more accepted in the United States if they would use the English name of Alderman. The English group settled in the United States much sooner. [Aldermans in America]
Jacob Oltermann’s son, Jacob Alderman, married Lucinda Bolt on April 25, 1822 in Montgomery, Virginia.Jacob and Lucinda Alderman had at least eight maybe nine children. The children were Charles, William, Adeline, Elizabeth, John, Nina, Hiram, and James. (Hulda has yet to be verified.) [Notes by Henry I. Jones, Jr. on ALDERMAN FAMILY]
At this point James Madison Alderman married Sarah Jane Kinder September 20, 1855 in Brownsville, Nebraska. Here is where Jacob Oltermann, the German, has a grandson, James Madison Alderman living in Nebraska. Thus I use the title “The German Nebraska Aldermans.”
“James M. Alderman was drafted into the Confederate Army in 1862 and served under the leadership of General Sterling Price in General Douglas Cooper’s division.…In 1892 James and Sarah moved to Newport to be near their sons and their families, William and James Madison.Another son, Sterling Price was at Long Pine.” [Chicago, Alden Publishing Company, 1909]
James Madison Alderman and Sarah Alderman had eight children in all. They were from oldest to youngest: William Henry, Luretta Tescana, Sterling Price, Hiram Franklin, James Madison, Richard Campbell, Robert E. Lee, and Oscar. [Anderson-Mason Genealogy, 2nd Ed.; W.R. McCay; 1951]
What I would like is to share with you information.
I would like any additions or corrections to this statement I just made about the Nebraska German Aldermans.I stand to be corrected. Was the first James Madison Alderman’s nicknamed Matt or Mott?Does anyone know of the parents name of old Jacob Oltermann?
I have a family website “Alderman Family Website” on MyFamily.com. It is about five years old. I keep adding information to the site.I have over 200 pictures of Nebraska Aldermans that go back to a picture of Sarah Jane Kinder, most all the sons of the first James Alderman and their families. My family tree on the site is approaching 3000 people. Two of the second James Madison Alderman’s children are still living and I need to keep that information private at this time. You are invited to be a guest of the site if you are doing family research on Aldermans. You can be a member if you are linked or can be linked to this family tree or live in the Sandhill area of Nebraska.I would need your approval to come to my site.Write me an email letter and your email address and I will be happy to let you come on board either as a guest or a member.I hope this information has been of some value to you. Yes, one of the German Aldermans on this family tree played football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers!Jim Alderman [firstname.lastname@example.org]
