Hello! I'm pretty new to this, so if I am in the wrong place, please advise.
I'm trying to track the Alderman family in England. My paternal grandfather is believed to be George F. Alderman born about 1848. He married Phoebe Ann ? Believe to have immigrated from Strathern, England between 1860-1880. Possible father or brothers' names are Edward and John, mail carriers in Strathern about 1877.
George and Phoebe Ann came to Palmyra, New York (where I live) and eventually had 8 children. My grandfather, Leon Ray, was believed to be the youngest and was born in either Farmington, Macedon, or Palmyra, New York in 1888. Some of the children born to George and Phoebe Ann may have been born in England. Their names are as follows:
Leon Ray b. 1888 in New York State (my grandfather, died 1942) Arthur William Frederick Nellie Hattie Florence and another daughter but all I have is her married name of Mrs. William Pierce.
In my father's old belongings I did find a letter from a cousin of his from about 1945-6, I believe. Her name was Jill Alderman and the letter was posted from Strathern. She was a student at the time, about 15 years old, possibly.
