CHARLES “JACK” ALDERMAN Jack Alderman, 76, was born Aug. 4, 1930 in Tarboro and lost a hard-fought battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 28, 2007.
He graduated from Tarboro High School in 1947 and promptly began a career in the textile industry at Hart Cotton Mill. He worked in “the mill” with his sister, brothers, father and friends for 30 years.
On Dec. 20, 1952, he married his sweetheart, Margie Mae West, who predeceased him in 1997.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Mike Alderman and wife Hilda, Steve Alderman and wife Beverly and Danny Ray Alderman and wife Barbara, all of Tarboro; daughters, Gail Mauney and husband Wesley of Lumberton, and Nikki Pollard of Greenville; grandchildren, Chris and James Alderman of Tarboro, and Kateland and Autumn Pollard of Greenville; sister, “Sweet Pea” Proctor; and special friend and caregiver, Alma Batchelor.
His love for life was equaled only by his care and love for his family. They will always remember him resting in his favorite place, a huge rocker recliner, watching television or reading a book and “not sleeping.” We thank God for giving him to us for a while. The sharing of his life with so many others in our community has made our town a better place to live.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. tonight at Carlisle Funeral Home and at other times in the family home at 205 W. Battle Ave. A gathering to celebrate his life will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Noah Howard officiating.
Funeral arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home.
