I'm doing research for my aunt, whose maiden name is Alderson. Her father, Thomas, emigrated from Shildon to West Virginia in 1905 at age 5.His family were miners in and around Shildon and in Scarboro, W. Va. afterthey moved. They subsequently relocated to southwestern Wisconsin where they continued to work in mines and begin farming.
Thomas' father was Joseph, born in Gunnerside. His wife was Amy, born in Gurney Villa. Her maiden name was Wilson, daughter of Thomas and Ann. Thomas had a sister named Adelaide, which by coincidence, is the name of a mine near Shildon.By researching the County Durham on-line database I've been able to determine that my aunt's branch of the Aldersons probably came from Swaledale and place called Reeth. The earliest record I could find of them was in the mid 1600s.
I've also been in contact with other researchers who have found relatives from around Ravenseat and Romaldkirk.I'm afraid that's about everything I've come up with. There are a number of Aldersons identified as mine casualties on the Durham County Mining Museum website. Please contact me if you believe there may be any relation to your family. My aunt's family just had a large family reunion in Wisconsin last month.
