Mr. Russell M. Aldred, Sr., age 90, of Marietta, GA passed away on January 13, 2006. A native of Green Ridge, Missouri, Mr. Aldred was born on January 1, 1916 to Ann Taylor Aldred and Milton Aldred. Mr. Aldred sailed on the U.S.S. Boise during WWII in the Battle of Guadalcanal and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring from the Navy with 22 years of service. He also worked for Kennedy Space Center as an instrument calibrator and traveled around the world making many friends along the way. After retirement from the Space Center, he stayed active by being a part of the Optimist Club and volunteering at St. Jude's Episcopal Church. Mr. Aldred's surviving family includes his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Aldred, his son and daughter-in-law, Russell Aldred, Jr. and Kristina Aldred and grandchildren Jennifer Merriwether and Russell J. Aldred. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Jude's Episcopal Church with Father Frank Baltz officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church.
