Obituary of Anna Topping Aldrich, 1861-1944 Funeral services for Anna Eliza Aldrich will be held Saturday afternoon, March 31, at the First Presbyterian church in Monticello [Iowa] at 2 o'clock. Dr. William J. Grosshelm will officiate with burial at Oakwood cemetery. She passed away at the McDonald hospital Wednesday, March 28 . Mrs. Aldrich, a daughter of Robert and Margaret Topping, was born Sept. 24, 1861, at Long Island, N.Y. She came to Monticello with her parents at the age of four years. The family settled on Bowen's Prairie where Mrs. Aldrich attended school in the "old brick" schoolhouse. The marriage of Anna Eliza Topping to Leonard Aldrich occurred Jan. 1, 1881. [Leonard Aldrich obit says Jan. 1, 1880.] They became the parents of six sons and five daughters, viz: Robert, William, Samuel and Fred of Monticello; Charles of Valsetz, Ore.; Alfred of Henry, S.D.; Mrs. Anna Darrow of Monticello; Mrs. Miranda Fowler, Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Hazel O'Connor of Marion, Iowa. Two daughters preceded her in death. Mr. Aldrich died March 1, 1929. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and a stepbrother, Harry Rockwell, of Coggin.
