I am trying to determine if a "family legend" is valid. Supposedly, we have a line of descent from the original George Aldrich of the 1600's (Mass) thru a Nathaniel Aldrich who first started a family in NY state, became restless and traveled into the "indian country of Pa, Oh, and finally Michigan. He decided to move his family there, probably in the latter part of the 1700's. So he traveled back, picked up two of his sons, retraced the trip and had them help build a first cabin on a homestead at or near Detroit. when that was established, they traveled back to NY to "get the girls". However, somewhere along the trail in Pa., Nathaniel became ill, died, and the sons buried him beside the trail. When they got home, Mom and several younger siblins moved back to Michigan with them, but two older sisters who had married in the meantime, remained in New York with their new families. I would suppose the journey would have followed the NY canal route to pa. and then the trail of the "western road" into Ohio. I have been told that from southern Ohio, thru Indiana, they traveled thru the Great Miami Swamp. Can anyone help to rough out the characters in this tail? I know that later gens. of the family are found in Mich., Iowa, and Nebraska.
