Is everyone agreed that Huldah THAYER, wife of Jacob ALDRICH, died in 1899 without remarrying?
There are marraige records for two Huldah ALDRICH's in Mendon, MA vital records, one to Samuel WILKINSON in 1697 and one to Ebenezer STAPLES in 1699.
The Memorial of Richard & Thomas THAYER (Thayer 1874) says that Huldah, Jacob's widow, married (2) Samuel WILKINSON. This alarmed me, since not only would that mean she was the mother of 25 children, but also that Huldah's grand-daughter Mary (daughter of Moses Aldrich) had married Huldah's son, Samuel Wilkinson.
If it was Huldah and Jacob's daughter Huldah who married Samuel WILKINSON the elder, then Mary ALDRICH married her cousin Samuel WILKINSON, rather than her uncle. (And you know you've been doing genealogy too long when instead of saying "EEEW, she married her cousin", you find yourself saying, "Bonus--that's one less family that I have to research.")
Then, The George Aldrich Genealogy (Aldrich 1971) said that Huldah, Jacob's widow, had married Ebenezer STAPLES who, by the way, was born in 1677 and young enough to be her son.
I'll be glad to hear from anyone who says that neither one of these things is true and Huldah has been resting in peace since 1699 while people tell scandalous stories about her.
