John Aldridge was born in Ga in 1786 (will 1866) and moved to Ala in the early 1800s. He married Abigail"Gilly" Ferguson, originally of SC, in Jefferson county Dec 15, 1821. He is in the 1830 Jefferson co census, 2 boys and 2 girls. in 1841 he bought land in Tippah county, Ms and lived there the rest of his life. He died in Ripley, Tippah co in 1866 and his wife died there in 1867. Three of his sons fought in the Civil War, John L. and Elias in the 23rd Miss. Inf. respectively as private and corporal, and William Washington Aldridge in a partisan ranger outfit. William and Elias lived in Tippah all their lives, Elias dying in 1910. John L. moved to Tenn. after the war and is there in the 1870 census, moving back to Tippah by the 1880 census. He is my gggrandfather and he died in 1908. One of John sr"s daughters married an Elijah Lee, another married W.W. Caveness, another to a man in Texas I can't recall. John Jr's son William Isiah, my ggrandfather, was born in 1866 and died in 1897 in Tippah. His son, John Lewis Aldridge, owned the first shoe store in Tupelo, Ms. He was born in 1887 and died in 1975. John Lewis's sister Dora was married to Walter Garrett of Jumpertown, Prentiss co. ms and died in about 1984. My mother, Ruby Aldridge, was born in 1915, married to Frank Wilkinson of Amory,Ms and died in 2003. I am looking for info on who John Aldridge Sr's parents were and their background. I found a John Aldridge born in 1786 in Ga on FamilySearch, but that John went to Texas and died in the Goliad massacre in 1836, so not him. I do not know Gilly Ferguson's origins either. Any info on John and Gilly would be appreciated.
