I am a direct decendent of James Haley Alewine.I have found proof that he was in the CSA.I am currently researching where and when he served.
Part of the legend surronding the Alewine family name was passed on by one of James Haley's kin to my aunt, Beatrice, of Spiro OK.John George Genevesser of Germany, used the Alewine name when he came into this country.Several court documents in SC confirm this.My research indicates that there were many Alewine's buried near the place where John George left England. It was also indicated that he was a teacher in a university. To date, inquires to the University of Hidleburg(?) remain unanswered.
Searches for the Genevesser name have been negative to date.It is possible that the name is spelled wrong, due to the use of phonetics(?), rather than the actual spelling. The search continues!
