John Ephraim Alewine is probably the John in Ephraim Alewine's (b. abt 1794) household as a 1 year old in 1860. No other John Alewine fit this birth year.But his obituary lists his parents as "the late John Alewine and Caroline Hagood of Anderson county."He may be a son or grandson of Ephraim.Caroline Hagood (see obituary below) could be the 23-year old Caroline in this household.Or is she the wife of Ephraim, age 66, or the wife of an unknown son named John (see obituary below).
1910 US Census, Martin, Anderson County, SC, 20 Apr 1910: John E., 51 (54?), a farmer and Mary A. Alewine, 61 have been married for 21 years (abt. 1889).This is their second marriage. She has had one child who is still living. This is the second marriage for for them both.
1920 US Census, Long Crane, Abbeville County, SC, 3 Jan 1920: John, 62, a farmer, and Mary Ann Alewine, 70, are renting.Both were born in SC as were their parents. His daughter Corrie Lee McAlister lives next door with he husband Earl R. and their 8 children.
1930 US Census, Donalds, Abbeville County, SC, ED 1-11, p. 6B, 11 Apr 1930: John E. , 70, a farmer and Mary A. Alewine, 80, are renters. John first married when he was 21 (abt. 1880) and Mary was 30 (abt. 1880). Living on the Donalds to Ware Shoals Road.
Obituary, John E. Alewine, Greenville News, Greenville, SC, 10 Oct 1934, p.6:
"Oct. 9- John Ephrian (sic) Alewine, 76, retired farmer, died Monday night at 11 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. R. McAlister, at Shoals Junction (SC), after a long illness.He was the son of the late John Alewine and Caroline Hagood of Anderson county, and since the death of his wife he had made his home with his daughter Mrs. McAlister.Mr. Alewine is survived by one daughter mentioned above, and one son, B. L. Alewine, Donalds: 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.Funeral services were held this morning at the Second Baptist church at Belton (SC) with the Rev. Mr. Crawford in charge.Interment was in the Belton cemetery."

"Greenwood, July 30 - B. L. Alewine 59, retired farmer, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Crawford, near Ware Shoals this afternoon at 1:51 o'clock.Mr. Alewine had been in declining health for some time but became critically ill last night. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Alewine of the Donalds section. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Johnnie Crawford and Mrs. Charles Fleming; one son, Archie Alewine.Funeral services will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. H. G. Wheeler. Interment will be in Latimer cemetery near Calhoun Falls."

C., Dec 18 - Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Dove Alewine, aged 54, who died at her home near Ware Shoals last night, were conducted at the residence today and internment was in Latimer church cemetery, near Calhoun Falls.Mrs. Alewine is survived by her husband, B. L. Alewine; one son Archie Alewine; two daughters, Mrs. Susie Bell Crawford and Miss Ruby Alewine of Ware Shoals; two brothers, M. L. Dove of Lancaster, and W. S. Dove of Greenwood."
