I visited Little River Bapt. Church over the weekend and had a chance to roam the cemetery (not as extensively as I would have liked!).
I found Mathis Alewine and his wife Elizabeth Loner Alewine were buried directly behind David Loner and Rebecca Alewine Loner, which suggests to me that the Alewine siblings had married Loner siblings.(Or rather that they WERE siblings.) And that the name was "Mathis" on the tombstone.(I have photos, if anyone is interested, please email me separately.)
I noticed that both of these families gave their first born sons a middle name of Loyd.Does anyone know where this connection might have come from?Could Susan w/o George have been a Loyd?
I also found that about two roads up from the road the church is on, is George Alewine Rd."George" was a very popular name among the Alewines -- can anyone suggest which George this road might have been named after? (Perhaps suggesting when and which Alewines came to Abbeville Co.)I would like to make more connections to Mathis' and Rebecca's parents George and Susan. This George is supposedly the s/o George & Catherine, s/o Michael & Mary, s/o John George Alewine.
Here is my current family list: Descendants of George Alewine
